Not too long before the final showdown with Kira, Kakyoin comes to Rohan's door one day looking miserable. He ends up venting about all the things he's been through over the past couple of years - ongoing trauma, a divorce, isolation - admitting that "it's been hard." Much to Kakyoin's embarrassment, however, he then finds himself becoming overwhelmed with emotion. He tries desperately to hold back his tears, but to no avail.
